Dual Search: Collections Strategist and Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian | Grand Valley State University (MI)

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Libraries is seeking applications for two tenure-track faculty positions.

The Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Librarian will provide strategic direction and leadership around the processes and purchase of library materials and the support and maintenance of electronic resources. The Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Librarian is a key member of the Systems & Discovery Department, which includes acquisitions, cataloging, discovery, technology, and electronic resource management. This position is responsible for coordinating the purchase, payment, and receiving of library materials, assisting in setting the library collections budget, coordinating the support and maintenance of electronic resources, and the investigation and implementation of new acquisition models.

The Collection Strategist will manage renewal decisions on databases and journals, lead and conduct analysis of subscription resources, and maintain awareness of the GVSU curriculum in order to effectively align our collection practices to GVSU’s academic programs. The Collection Strategist is a key member of the Collections and Digital Scholarship Department, which includes scholarly communications, university archives, digital collections, and digital preservation.

These positions will give the selected candidate the opportunity to:

CREATE-- The Collections Strategist and the Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Librarian will identify and implement new and emerging trends, best practices, and models in collections lifecycle management. These positions will help create new workflows, policies, and procedures that align with their areas of focus and anticipate the future needs of the Libraries. 

ANALYZE--These positions will coordinate the collection of statistics and create reports to help analyze usage of library resources. This analysis will help to inform budget allocations and collections decisions to best meet the needs of a diverse campus. Additionally, as a faculty position, there will be opportunities to provide leadership on Library and University committees. 

COLLABORATE--These positions will work collaboratively across the library to ensure our collections are accessible and meeting the needs of our users. These positions will provide opportunities to work with faculty, staff, and students across the University. Required Qualifications

● Master's Degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA

● Demonstrated evidence of organizational skills and ability to be detail-oriented

● Strong time management skills

● Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively

● Excellent oral and written communication skills

● Strong interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy

● Demonstrated teamwork skills complemented by the ability to take initiative

● Demonstrated commitment to providing customer service to meet user needs

● Commitment to inclusion, equity, and to serving the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience managing projects or operational activities

● Familiarity with integrated library system functions for technical services

● Ability to manage stakeholder needs

● Knowledge of and/or experience with licensing and user rights

● Comfort working with financial and other statistical data
