Branch Manager | Aurora Public Library District

We’re seeking a Branch Manager to bring leadership and inspiration to our smallest and most personal branch - West Branch! Does the prospect of managing a small but growing branch excite you? Under the guidance of the Director of Neighborhood Services, the Branch Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of library services at the branch. This will include developing and maintaining standards for customer service, effective communication, and a positive workplace culture. You will set goals and priorities in alignment with the library’s strategic plan, oversee special projects, and evaluate branch services and performance. This is a key leadership role that will require working closely with administrative leaders across the system to strengthen community relationships through outreach, support staff development and performance, and develop excellence in program and service delivery. You’ll work closely with administration and the architectural team to plan and execute a phased renovation, the first since West Branch opened in 1998.

In this role you will:

  • Develop branch objectives consistent with strategic plan goals and the library’s standards and policies. You will work with senior management to design and implement procedures, systems and performance standards to achieve library-wide objectives. 
  • Develop and maintain consistent and effective lines of communication within the branch and with other library departments and branches. Coordinate with other departments in planning and executing efficient workflow among our various departments and locations. 
  • Serve as a member of the Public Services Manager team, where you will advocate for branch needs and collaborate with peers to develop policies and projects that will affect all locations. 
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources team, manage the hiring process for new branch employees. Evaluate, coach, support and develop team members. Exemplify and encourage a growth mindset. 
  • Assist with district-wide library promotion and outreach efforts by participating in community events, service organizations, and special projects.

  • Available to work weekends and evenings.

Requirements

You will need to have:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) 
  • 3 years of management responsibility with direct reports 
  • 5 years of experience working in a public library setting, providing library services to customers of all ages 
  • Spanish language skills are desirable
