Federal Budget Proposes Huge Cuts
March 16, 2017On March 16, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled his preliminary budget proposal for 2018. In addition to drastic cuts across a wide range of departments and agencies, the proposed budget calls for the elimination of all federal funding to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). For Illinois libraries, the first step in defending this key source of funding is being able to articulate the benefits that come directly to our libraries and communities through IMLS and LSTA. ILA is working with the Illinois State Library and will develop key talking points and background information. In the meantime, we urge you to consider registering with the Illinois delegation to visit your federal elected officials on National Library Legislative Day, May 1.
