Daniel Matthews, ALA Councilor Candidate

Daniel Matthews, Moraine Valley Community College

Statement of Concern
To me, ILA is about connections. To our legislators, to our boards and administrations, our communities and most importantly to each other. During my time as a member of ILA, these connections an immense amount of growth. It has given important opportunities to advocate for libraries and for myself. It offers opportunities to hone leadership and consensus building skills, and supports its members in taking bold moves. While ILA has accomplished so much at the institutional level, the impact on individuals has been just as great.

I want to see ILA continue to be an organization that fosters these connections and opportunities for its members. We will continue to see a need for advocacy for intellectual freedom and information literacy, and ILA will play an important role in preparing librarians to be those advocates and support each other in these efforts. It would be my humble pleasure to play my own part in this work by giving back to ILA through service in the capacity of Director-at-Large ALA Councilor.
