Meet the New Secretary/Treasurer: Ariel Orlov
Illinois Association of College & Research Libraries Forum (IACRL)
October 2, 2017Carl Lehnen
University of Illinois at Chicago
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Persistent, organized, curious.
Why did you want to be the IACRL Secretary?
IACRL has been a great resource for me as a librarian. I want to help integrate academic library issues into ILA and the annual conference, and to work on new options for professional development.
What is your current professional position, and what do you like best about it?
I'm the head of the library at Adler University in Chicago, and I'm also the distance education librarian. The best part of having both of these jobs is that I still get to have direct contact with students, while also being able to guide strategy and get more involved institutionally.
What's one recent book you've read that you would recommend?
I'm reading one fiction and one non-fiction right now, and I'd recommend both: The Patron Saint of Liars, by Ann Patchett, and God is Not Great, by Christopher Hitchens.
