The Library's History

The Bourbonnais Public Library District began 40 years ago with the vision of a small group of dedicated individuals who felt strongly that the people of their community deserved library services. From modest beginnings in leased space, the library has grown into what you see today.

We had 88,902 visits in 2024 with over 120,000 items circulated.

Circulation, Adult Services, Teen Services, Youth Services, Marketing, Administrative, and Maintenance.

Longest-Serving Staff Member at the Library

Our technical services assistant has worked with BPL for over 29 years; almost every item in the library has been processed by them.

Newest Staff Member

We just welcomed an evening circulation assistant who is a public school teacher by day, and has “always dreamed of working at a library.”

Why did the library become an ILA Institutional Member?

We became an organizational member to support ILA and engage with other libraries and library professionals.

The best thing about being an ILA Institutional member is staying connected with library trends and issues, continuing education opportunities, and getting support from ILA committee members when challenges arise.

Fun Fact About the Library

We have a rescued rabbit who is now retired, but spent many years in our children’s area delighting patrons of all ages.
