Legislative Update -- August 28, 2025
August 28, 2025
This year, the Administration called for gutting the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Department of Education (ED), but Congress is the branch of government that has deciding power on the federal budget. If Congress doesn’t include funding for library programs in its budget, those services will end – regardless of what happens with the Administration or in court.
All library advocates need to take action without delay and urge the House of Representatives to pass level funding for libraries in next year’s federal budget. The Senate has already taken a key step towards supporting libraries in this way, and we need the House to follow suit.
Join ALA and ILA in urging your House Representative to follow the Senate’s example and do everything in their power to support library funding!
