The ALA’s Office for Information Technology Policy is sponsoring a free webinar, “ Communicating Copyright Status through Metadata”. The event will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM CST on Thursday, August 4. is a collaborative project of DPLA and Europeana to create a standard way of communicating the copyright status of works in digital collections. The project is built on the idea that accurate and clear rights statements are needed to help both organizations and users understand how they can use digital collections. This session, led by members of the working group that developed the statements, will address what does, how it was created, and its first stages of adoption by digital libraries both in the US and abroad. Speakers include Emily Gore, Director of Content at DPLA and Right Statement Working Group Co-Chair, and David Hansen, Clinical Assistant Professor & Faculty Research Librarian at UNC School of Law and Right Statement Working Group Member.
