Crete Public Library District Names David Sieffert New Director

After a nationwide search, the Board of Trustees of the Crete Public Library District voted to hire David Sieffert as Executive Director during their January board meeting to replace former director Susan Dienes, who retired at the end of 2021.
Dienes came to Crete in 2015 and worked to make the library a destination for information, entertainment, and community events. She encouraged the development of the Beyond Books collection, which includes, among other things, cake pans, puzzles, a guitar, and a sewing machine. She also approved the addition of more technology for patron use, such as Rokus and hotspots for checkout, and the extension of the library’s WiFi into the parking lot during pandemic closures.
Dienes also oversaw several major building projects, including window replacement, HVAC upgrades, and updating the lighting to be more energy efficient. During her tenure, the library also became fine free in an effort to eliminate more barriers to library materials.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside a talented, dedicated staff and a supportive Board of Trustees, all of whom love their library and are doing their best to see it continue to thrive and serve the community,” said Dienes. “I wish continued success for the library, staff, Board, and the new leadership.” Dienes’s position as the Crete Public Library’s Executive Director was the culmination of more than 40 years in libraries.
David Sieffert comes to Crete from the Bensenville Community Public Library District where he’s worked since 2011, including the past six years as director. During his tenure there, he secured and oversaw the implementation of over $250,000 in grant projects, which included projects focused on local history document digitization, after-school STEAM programming, and facility improvements. Sieffert was very involved in the community as an active member of the Bensenville Rotary Club, Bensenville Community Foundation, and the Bensenville Youth Services Coalition. He was also a volunteer basketball coach for the local middle school and the Transitions Learning Center Special Olympics team.
Prior to earning his Masters of Library Science degree and coming to Bensenville, Sieffert was a high school teacher in Florida.
The Board appreciated Sieffert’s experience with building maintenance, his ability to develop community relationships, and overall energy. “We really liked how David keeps informed about library developments and grant opportunities,” Board President Heather Van Zyl said. Board Vice President Leslee Williams added, “Any project that comes up, he can handle it.” Mr. Sieffert was very excited at the opportunity to come to Crete. “The Crete Public Library is a well-known and respected library,” Sieffert said. “I can’t wait to get started and continue to build upon that reputation.”
Sieffert will begin on February 16.
