IACRL Forming Virtual Journal-Discussion Group

Illinois Association of College & Research Libraries Forum (IACRL)

June 26, 2018

The Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries is seeking to form a virtual journal-discussion club. The club would meet online once a month (or at a different frequency, depending on member preferences and availability) to discuss journal articles of interest to academic and research librarians in Illinois. The articles could come from any scholarly publication covering topics relevant to academic librarianship. Possible titles that are accessible for free online include College & Research Libraries and College & Research Libraries News College & Research Libraries News. Club members would choose the articles before each meeting and also decide on questions to discuss, related to the topics of the articles.

The club would be an excellent opportunity for IACRL members to engage with colleagues from across the state, while staying current on the latest trends and issues affecting academic and research libraries. ACRL chapters in other states have had success with similar groups. If you would be interested in joining or managing the club, including hosting the meetings online (Google Hangouts is an option, depending on the number of participants), or if you have any questions on what the group’s activities might involve, please contact Eric Edwards, IACRL Vice-President/President-Elect, at eedwards@ilsos.net.
