Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Reference Support Supervisor provides oversight and leadership for classified staff who deliver reference assistance to Library patrons and collaboratively leads outreach activities that foster student success and community engagement. Under the direction of the Manager of Public Services, the Reference Support Supervisor works closely with leadership in Circulation, Reserves and Distribution, Resource Sharing, and Circulation Systems to ensure that the Library provides exceptional, mission-centered service for the College community. These objectives are met through planning, assessment, reporting, and development of resources and personnel.

• Hire, supervise, train and evaluate classified staff who provide reference assistance to Library visitors in person and virtually.

• Create the service schedule for Reference Assistants and manage day-to-day changes; direct the assignment of project-based work for Reference Assistants identified by Library faculty and administration.

• In cooperation with faculty librarians, ensure that reference service effectively and efficiently meets the needs of the College community, and that reference staff have the necessary resources to be successful.

• Perform all duties of a Reference Assistant at scheduled hours and as needed, assisting and instructing patrons in the use of Library collections, services, research tools and methods, utilizing reference and circulation systems and software.

• Coordinate and participate in outreach activities that increase Library awareness and usage, contribute to student success, and foster community engagement; serve as a point of contact for groups requesting Library tours.

• Manage the cooperative effort to create collection displays that enrich the academic and cultural life of the College community.

• Develop and maintain staff and public information resources that effectively communicate service expectations and create a welcoming and inclusive study environment.

• Provide support for Library-sponsored events and initiatives by identifying and scheduling staff for temporary duties.

• Serve on appropriate departmental, institutional, and professional committees and groups.

• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Library coursework, Library Technical Assistant (LTA) certificate, or graduate coursework in library science preferred. 

Experience:

  • Two (2) years customer service experience required; library reference experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in a public service environment required; supervisory experience in a library preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in English required.
  • Current and skilled in the use of office technologies and academic tools and resources required.
  • Standard office equipment and software; specialized library systems, equipment and software, including Ex Libris Alma/Primo, Springshare, and accessibility tools; communication via email, telephone, chat, and video conferencing.
  • Busy public service area requiring excellent people skills and a flexibility and willingness to adjust to last minute situations.
  • Must be able to spend extended periods of time at a computer keyboard and monitor.
  • Vision adequate to read a variety of print materials and computer screens.

This position requires a background check and drug screen.

Pay Grade:

Managerial 5 Salary
