GoFundMe Pages Created Without Library Organizations Consent

October 23, 2025

More than a million GoFundMe pages were created without notifying the organizations. Public IRS data was used to create the pages. Having unknown and unclaimed placeholder pages presents several issues for organizations, this is a summary of the issues.

Staff from the ALA Office of Public Policy and Advocacy did a spot-check for unclaimed pages of library entities and it appears that several state library associations, ALA divisions, Friends of the Library groups, and individual libraries are included in the GoFundMe placeholder pages.

A fake page has been created for ILA and we are taking steps to remove it. Donations for ILA can be made on our website or by sending a check in the mail.

We recommend that libraries check if a placeholder page has been created for your library. Here is information on how to remove an unwanted placeholder page.
