CARLI to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
Illinois Association of College & Research Libraries Forum (IACRL)
September 24, 2025
The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) is celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2025. Join your peers at the Anniversary Celebration and Annual Membership Meeting, on October 21 at the Illinois Conference Center in Champaign. Although the meeting agenda is designed for in-person attendance, some meeting content will be available via Zoom for remote attendees.
Scott Carlson, Senior Writer and columnist at The Chronicle of Higher Education and co-author of “Hacking College: Why the Major Doesn’t Matter—and What Really Does” will deliver the keynote address.
A morning panel will include a look at some of the key history and the incredible people involved in CARLI’s founding, and how that history of collaboration continues to shape the deep spirit of collaboration among Illinois academic libraries now and into the future. Panelists will include:
- Bradley Baker, former Library Dean at Northeastern Illinois University
- Elizabeth Clarage, former Director of the Illinois Cooperative Collection Management Program
- Tom Dorst, former Director of the Illinois Digital Academic Library
- Kristine Hammerstrand, former Director of the Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization
- Paula Kaufman, former University Librarian at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
- Jay Starratt, former Library Dean at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
- J. David Stewart, former Assistant Vice President for Planning and Budgeting, University of Illinois System and a champion for establishing CARLI in the UI System Office.
Anne Craig, CARLI Senior Director and former Director of the Illinois State Library, will moderate the discussion.
The afternoon will feature a CARLI report about ongoing projects and table discussions around topics essential to Illinois libraries.

Be there!
All are welcome. Attendance is free but registration is required. Lunch will be provided.
Show us your stuff!
Enter the “Curious Things from Your Collection” contest. We want to see the most outlandish, weird, and/or strangest thing in your library’s collection(s.) Bring the item to the October 21 meeting or submit a picture of your entry to CARLI Support with “Curious Collections.” Attendees will vote to select the winner.
Exhibits will include an OER Petting Zoo, posters from CARLI Counts Cohort 6, and the incredibly curious items from CARLI member collections. Don’t forget to visit the vendors and thank them for their generous support of the CARLI Scholarship.
Visit the event page to register and for carpool information.
We look forward to seeing you on October 21!
