Illinois School Library Workers Symposium

June 9, 2023

The Illinois School Library Workers Symposium will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. This event is designed for individuals who are working in school libraries with no formal library education, certified or non-certified, paraprofessionals, and those considering getting a school library endorsement.

This one-day online training event is being co-hosted by:

  • Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE)
  • Illinois Library Association (ILA)
  • Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS)
  • Illinois State Library (ISL)
  • Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS)

Attendees are welcome to choose one of three library program tracks: high school, middle school, or elementary school. All attendees will have the opportunity to attend keynote sessions on topics like intellectual freedom, standards & advocacy, organization of information, and leadership in school libraries.

Attendees will also be matched with library workers from similar schools and districts for small group discussions.

Applicants who are licensed, have a library endorsement, and/or an MLS/MLIS are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to school library workers who have not had formal library training in the past.

This event is free. PDH credits are available.

This event will be recorded and portions will be available to watch after the live event is over. PDH credits are only available to those who attend the live event.

Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Attendees will be notified of their selection by Friday, September 8, 2023.
