Legislative Update -- January 27, 2022

January 27, 2022

ILA's Equitable Access to Electronic Literature Act, HB 4470 and SB 3167, is advancing in the Illinois House and Senate! It has been referred to substantive committees in each respective chamber: the House Consumer Protection Committee and the Senate Executive Committee. The House Consumer Protection Committee meets on Tuesday February 1 at 4 p.m.; the Senate Executive Committee isn't scheduled yet. ILA will provide testimony on Tuesday and members may be asked to call your elected officials should the bill make it to the House and/or Senate floor. Please stay tuned!

We are pleased to share this recent article about e-book pricing bills nationwide from Readersfirst.com, an organization of nearly 300 libraries representing 200 million readers dedicated to ensuring that library users have the same open, easy and free access to e-books that they have come to rely on with physical books. We see many Illinois libraries represented among ReadersFirst's members; consider joining if you haven't already.
