Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops, publicizes, and presents consistent programs for children and families in a variety of formats including story times, the Summer Reading Program, and varied programs throughout the year. Collaborate with the Director on the scheduling of these programs.
  • Promotes library programs through the use of in-house and outside publicity, including but not limited to writing content for the newsletter, creating and utilizing social media and managing webpage content for the library.
  • Manages the children’s and teen’s collections and participates in collection development work.
  • Initiates and participates in outreach activities with community organizations and local businesses.
  • Performs a variety of support tasks related to working the circulation desk.
  • Implements other work duties as assigned by the director.
  • Actively contributes to the library and embraces a desire to learn and grow. Seeks out continuing education opportunities in order to maintain and enhance skills and competencies.

 This is a full-time salaried position with a benefits package that includes medical insurance, paid vacation, sick time, and IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund).  Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and enthusiasm for working with children, parents, and caregivers. Comfortable speaking to groups. Library experience a plus.
  • Strong commitment to, and experience in public service with a desire to help people connect to resources.
  • Ability to work easily and naturally as a member of a team.
  • Reliable, organized, excellent time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use other software, computer applications, and digital media.

Salary

$28,794-$30,934 or higher depending on experience
