Define excellence as the next Homewood (IL) Public Library Director – join a committed seven-member Board of Trustees and a dedicated staff (35FTE) as they move the Library forward with excellent library programs and services for the 19,175 Homewood residents. The Homewood Public Library (HPL) is excited about future opportunities as it addresses the technology, education and economic changes facing them today. The Library currently operates from a single, downtown facility with a $2.4 million annual budget and support from a vital Friends of the Library organization.

In conjunction with the governing Library Board of Trustees, staff and appropriate community representatives the Library Director plans, organizes, develops and directs all aspects of library service to residents of the district. Responsibilities include developing and monitoring the annual budget; preparing and filing all required legal and financial reports mandated by the county and the state; all aspects of personnel management; policy development and implementation; oversight of facilities and collections; representing the library as an active, engaged community partner; supporting fundraising and grant development; and working with the Friends of HPL. Please see the complete Library Director position description for details.

Minimum qualifications are a master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program and five years of progressively responsible library experience including three years in a supervisory role. The successful candidate will also demonstrate ethical leadership and create an atmosphere of collaboration and open communication with a strong commitment to customer service, inclusion, diversity and community engagement.
