Seeking Library Executive Director

What You’ll Do

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a compelling vision and strategic plan that positions our library as an essential community hub
  • Lead budget management and financial operations while maximizing resource impact
  • Champion library advocacy at local, state, and national levels
  • Build cooperative partnerships with governmental agencies and community organizations

Team & Operations Management

  • Recruit, develop, and inspire a talented team committed to exceptional public service
  • Create library-wide benchmarks and comprehensive training programs
  • Ensure safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments for both patrons and staff
  • Oversee all library operations with a focus on innovation and efficiency

Community Impact

  • Translate community needs into effective programs and services
  • Maintain robust public relations and community engagement initiatives
  • Represent the library at meetings and professional events

Innovation & Growth

  • Stay ahead of library service trends and emerging technologies
  • Collaborate with IT partners to meet evolving digital needs
  • Develop data-driven approaches to service improvement
  • Present compelling reports and presentations to diverse stakeholders

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Master’s in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Minimum five (5) years of public library experience
  • At least three (3) years of management experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Technology Fluency: Familiarity with integrated library systems and emerging library technologies
  • Financial Acumen: Knowledge of budgeting procedures and statistical record-keeping

Compensation
Salary: $92,000 to $115,475 depending on qualifications.
Benefits include health insurance, vision, and dental, as well as paid leave. CAPLD is an IMRF Library.
