Summer Reading Program Coordinator FAQs

Staff

  • The order form for the upcoming year is distributed to installation SRP coordinators around August or September. The Service Library Program Manager determines the distribution of funds for each of the Service's installations. The amount is based on the amount of funding available from DoD OSD, the overall average amount spent per participant DoD-wide from the last three years, and the installation's registrations average for the last three years. Essentially, the more people who take part in your program, the more funding you receive above a minimum threshold.

  • If you need to order additional supplies, they must be locally funded and ordered. The DoD-MWR Summer Reading Program vendor is iREAD; you may order supplemental supplies directly from iREAD or another vendor if desired.

  • The Summer Reading Resource Guide and disc will arrive around January/February. The rest of the order should arrive around March. Inventory the order to ensure all materials are present and in good condition, then notify the DoD Summer Reading Program Coordinator (NGLP@navy.mil). Broken and missing items will be replaced.

  • The Summer Reading order catalog includes decorations and activity kits intended to support holding in-person activities. Grant funding for entertainers or other activities is not possible. Your Service Library Program may have additional support or it may be a local responsibility. Your local Marketing Department may also be able to assist with securing sponsorship funding for activities/events.

  • Beanstack provides real-time reports for all installations which reduces the number of data calls to local program coordinators. Historically, installations have not always provided any data. If data is not provided, the installation will cease to be funded. Since moving to Beanstack, program registration and minutes logged has increased exponentially.

  • Counting minutes ensures slower readers are not penalized and encourages readers to choose books that they enjoy instead of just books with the shortest page counts.

  • Please update your site by mid-April. Beanstack will review your site for setup errors and contact the installation program coordinator. If you need assistance with Beanstack, please place a help desk ticket.
