Forum Spotlight - Resources and Technical Services Forum

Resources & Technical Services Forum (RTSF)

February 3, 2020

What is the RTSF?
RTSF stands for the Resources and Technical Services Forum. The RTSF’s purpose is to create and provide professional development opportunities and access to resources for any library staff member working in technical services. Anyone who is personally or whose library is a member of ILA and they work in or aspire to work in technical services is welcome to attend any of our meetings. One of our main activities is to work to plan more technical services focused programs for ILA and Reaching Forward conferences.

Current Activities
We spend most of the winter working on program ideas for ILA and Reaching Forward and connecting and encouraging speakers to those topic areas. That is why it’s important that any staff member or anyone who is interested in a career in Technical Services should attend meetings – we rely on input from members to decide on programs. So come tell us what you’re interested in learning about, or come tell us what you’re passionate about and want to share with your fellow technical services staff!
Our next meeting is Friday, February 7th at 10 am at Tinley Park Public Library where we will be working on more ideas for programs for ILA Conference 2020. You can register on L2 and you can also attend via Zoom.

Upcoming activities:
In March, we put out the call for nominations to the RTSF scholarship and for the TBS, Inc. Technical Services Award. The RTSF scholarship is relatively new. The scholarship is for first time ILA annual conference attendees to offset travel, registration and lodging for a technical services staff member who would not be able to attend otherwise. The TBS Technical Services Award is an annual award given at the ILA annual conference to an individual who has made a substantial contribution in the area of library technical services.

Please send in your applications and nominations for these awards and please come and share your ideas with us at the next meeting on Friday, February 7th! And share them with us and follow us on our blog
