The Homewood Public Library is looking for an experienced and creative leader to manage and lead our knowledgeable and dedicated staff of 7 (5 FTE,) in our Adult Services Department and join our recently reorganized and enthusiastic management team. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing staff, collections, resources and services in this library situated in the south suburbs of Chicago. Homewood has a population of roughly 20,000 in a wonderful and diverse community filled with library supporters. HPL offers a full benefit package including a cost-share health insurance program, paid vacation days and holidays, IMRF retirement plan and more, as well as a 35 hour full-time work week. Homewood is home to the Homewood Science Center, the award winning Homewood-Flossmoor High School and many opportunities for creative outlets. The library is just blocks from the Metra train stop, a 35 minute drive to Chicago, and a 20 minute drive to NW Indiana. HPL is part of SWAN and RAILS and is open 7 days/week, 10 months per year, 6 days/week the other two months. This position reports to the Library Director.
The successful candidate will have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited library school, a minimum of 4 years of library experience and 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a library setting. Additionally, we seek an individual with excellent written and oral communication skills as well as outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills capable of managing traditional and emerging Adult Services resources, collections and staff, preferably with experience managing budgets as well, and an individual familiar with Microsoft Office products, library software (such as is used for ordering, integrated library systems, room booking, etc.) and who has the ability to ably manage and calmly and professionally handle library situations that may arise, as well as someone who is a positive team player that brings new ideas to the table and helps implement other's ideas as well. A commitment to the community, diversity and the library profession are also desirable. Some evening/weekend work is required. This position is managerial, but supervises union bargaining unit staff. DOQ, MINIMUM starting salary $28.15/hour ($51,233 annually based on full-time 35 hour work week)
