Full-time Reference Librarian | Cicero Public Library

Job Description: Provide reference assistance and reader's advisory at a busy reference desk. Other duties may include: organization and preservation of local history collection, collection development, some interlibrary loan functions, computer/Internet assistance, adult programming, displays, and community outreach. If you are looking to build your resume this position will give you experience in many different areas of public library work.

Schedule: We offer a 35-hour work week, which encourages work/life balance. Typical weekday shifts are 9am-4pm, 12-7pm, 2-9 pm (due to COVID we currently close at 8pm Mon-Thurs). Friday shifts are 9am-4pm or 10am-5pm. Saturday shifts are 10am-5pm. Sunday shifts are 12-5pm (we are closed on Sundays in the summer).

Requirements

MLS/ALA, students nearing completion of the MLS degree are encouraged to apply and may be able to start as part-time and switch to full-time upon completion of studies. We need an organized, flexible self-starter with good customer service and communication skills. Our community is largely Hispanic and candidates must have a desire to work with this community. Fluency in Spanish and archives certification are highly desired and familiarity with SWAN is a plus.
