The Batavia Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, flexible, and innovative reference/programming librarian who is technologically savvy, customer service driven, and passionate about programming.
Responsibilities: This full-time position provides reference and readers’ advisory services; serves as the primary coordinator of programs for adults; assists patrons in the use of computers, eMedia, and other technology; and teaches computer classes. This position plans, coordinates, and executes events for several major program series, including Sundays on Stage; One Book, One Batavia; New Lyceum Lecture Series; and How-To Community.
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday – 9:00AM – 5:00PM; Wednesday 1:00 – 9:00PM; and 1½ weekends per month. The actual schedule is subject to change as may be needed to accommodate the vicissitudes of the work.
Required:The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program; a minimum of 1 year’s experience in reference/adult services in a public library; a minimum of 1 year’s experience with successful program planning for adults; will be a team player who works well with others; and who is endowed with excellent communications skills, a demonstrated ability to handle program-related situations calmly, strong computer skills, attention to detail, and outstanding readers’ advisory skills.
Preferred:A minimum of 2 years’ experience in reference/adult services is preferred, preferably in a public library.
Desired: A person who is flexible, fun-loving, well-organized, tactful, resourceful, and good-humored.
Starting salary is from $23.6875 per hour. This position includes a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage; IMRF retirement; optional 457 plan, and paid time off.
