Illinois State University's Milner Library seeks an innovative, forward-thinking, and collaborative librarian for a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position responsible for managing the Cataloging and Acquisitions Department and the Library’s electronic resources. Appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Applicants must have a master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent as well as a second master’s degree, certificate of advanced studies, or a doctorate in library/information science or a subject discipline by date of appointment. Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent.
  • A second master’s degree, certificate of advanced studies, or a doctorate in library/information science or a subject discipline by date of appointment.
  • Minimum of 3-years supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to plan, manage, and oversee complex projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in alignment with goals of the department, library, and university.
  • Evidence of strong commitment to customer service.
  • Knowledge and experience in most aspects of the electronic resources lifecycle.
  • Experience in either acquisitions or cataloging with a strong preference for experience in both areas.
  • Knowledge of cataloging processes and techniques, and familiarity with basic cataloging standards, including RDA, Library of Congress Subject Heading practice, Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal Classification systems, and MARC21 formats.
  • Technical knowledge of and experience working with OCLC, integrated library systems, link resolvers, and other applications used in libraries.
  • Familiarity with trends in library technology related to acquisitions and knowledge organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Potential to meet university requirements for tenure, including scholarly or creative activities and service.
