Appearing in the ALA “American Libraries” magazine is not an everyday occurrence, and for some, it may be a once in a lifetime honor. Barbara Adrianopoli, Cultural and Racial Diversity Committee member and Director of Extension Services at the Schaumburg Township District Library, appeared in the December issue, pictured with John Philip. She won the 2008 John Philip Award, given at the Association of bookmobile and outreach Services (ABOS) Annual Conference October 10 in Columbus, Ohio. This national award recognizes leadership in outreach and bookmobile services of an individual, while honoring the work of its namesake, John Philip. The ABOS says of the award, “This award honors his dedication and tireless work and serves as a pinnacle for all bookmobile and outreach staff to aspire to reach.”
Barbara said of the award, “It was such an honor to receive this distinguished award. Stepping in John Philip’s footprints is quite intimidating. But, you are only as good as your board of directors and your director allows you to be – so the award goes to them and to the other staff members in outreach who inspire me every day to leave small footprints in helping others to enjoy library services.”
Congratulations Barbara, keep up the excellent work, and best wishes toward appearing in “American Libraries” magazine again, sometime in the future!
Keep up with new developments on the Cultural and Racial Diversity Committee’s blog. Currently, the Cultural and Racial Diversity Committee is busy planning activities for the fall conference in Peoria. The popular DiversiTea event will return, and we hope to see you there!
