Hope College seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, and service-oriented Humanities Librarian to serve as an integral part of the Research and Instruction team providing high quality research, collection development, and instructional services for the Hope College community. The Humanities Librarian helps to develop print and digital collections of the Hope College Van Wylen Library in support of teaching and research for English, Philosophy, Religion, History and Modern and Classical Languages, and provides research support and instruction in those areas.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS (or equivalent) from an accredited program; an undergraduate degree in one of the humanities (English, Religion, Philosophy, History, or Languages); excellent teaching skills; self-reliance as well as the willingness to consult and collaborate with colleagues; knowledge and experience in reference services; strong technology skills; and excellent interpersonal skills. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to combine excellence in academic librarianship with professional activity and should be committed to the character and goals of a liberal arts college with a Christian perspective and specifically, to Hope College's Mission.
 
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:  A second master’s degree in a discipline in the humanities; proficiency in a foreign language; expertise with technology including digital humanities projects, multi-media etc.

Basic Functions:
Working collaboratively with other Brookens Library faculty and staff, plans, manages and delivers excellent services in the library’s learning spaces, reference/information spaces and Access Services unit.  Serves as a liaison to assigned departments, providing instructional and collection development services.   Manages student engagement initiatives, including outreach to high school groups.  Works with other instructional services librarians to promote information literacy and lifelong learning.
 

Qualifications:
Minimum:  Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school and at least three years of public service and instructional experience in an academic library.  Experience in managing library learning spaces, including planning for and implementing technology upgrades.  Knowledge of circulation and interlibrary loan best practices.  Knowledge of Web 2.0 best practices as applied to libraries.  Ability to contribute in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Evidence of user-focused perspective.
 

Preferred:  Experience in student outreach and engagement initiatives; public services supervisory or management experience; experience in enhancing the library’s web presence.

Brief job description:
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applications for a Patron Services Manager for Central Circulation. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of communication, coordination, and supervisory duties for circulation services in a large academic library environment. Reporting to the Head of Central Access Services, the successful candidate will play a key role in providing access to the University Library’s collections housed in the Main Stacks.

The Patron Services Manager for Central Circulation will:

•       Provide leadership and supervision for the staff at the Main Stacks Circulation Desk
•       Develop and maintain best practices and standards relating to circulation functions in a large academic library
•       Ensure that staff are well trained and supported to perform their jobs
•       Assess ongoing work to improve efficiencies, formulating and recommending changes to workflow
•       Perform quality control for consistent patron service
•       Track expenditures of funds; keeping statistical records
•       Train and support Central Circulation staff to serve as a resource for staff in departmental libraries and other units
•       Serve as a liaison between the University Library and the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) for circulation functions
•       Configure circulation functions of the integrated library system and other related systems and software
•       Be available as needed during evening and weekend shifts to assist in case of emergency or lack of desk coverage

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience:
one year of experience as a supervisor or manager; experience working at a high-volume customer service point; demonstrated ability to prepare reports and generate documents using Microsoft Excel, Word or similar productivity software; strong written and oral communication skills.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution required. Strong public service, teaching, and outreach skills and a commitment to customer relations and user-centered library services are essential. Knowledge of current issues, trends, resources, and associated technology. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
