Training and Experience
Master of Library Science degree from an accredited college or university required. Responsibilities. The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Library System, and under the general direction of the 15-member Board of Trustees, has overall responsibility for general administration of System operations. The Executive Director supervises Department Heads, the Youth Services Consultant and administrative staff—and works with the Board, staff, member libraries, and major stakeholders to establish the strategic vision for the System aligning its mission, with member library and community needs and priorities. This is complex executive work planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the System. Qualifications. Joliet Public Library is a large public library that serves a diverse population of over 147,000 people. We are looking for a self-motivated, collaborative, and innovative professional with a Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university to serve as Manager of Technical Services. This is a full-time position that will report to the Deputy Director at our Main Library at 150 N. Ottawa, Joliet.
Responsibilities include: The Manager of Technical Services is responsible for supervising all staff in the Technical Services Department, as well as planning and managing all functions of the department, including cataloging, acquisitions, receiving, serials management, processing, preservation, inventory, statistical reporting, and local ILS administration support for the library.
Job Specifications: Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university, a minimum of three years experience in supervising technical services personnel and operations, substantial understanding of ILS administration concepts, ability to use Microsoft Excel to record, organize, and display statistical information, considerable knowledge of technical services data standards and description rules, ability to objectively evaluate staff performance, good verbal, written and training skills. Ability to catalog materials in Spanish is highly desirable.
Compensation: $55,000 D.O.Q. We offer excellent benefits--12 sick days per year, 5 weeks of vacation after the first year, and 12 holidays per year. IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) is included as well as medical, dental and vision insurance.

The Information Management Specialist (IMS) is a full time, 12-month Academic Professional appointment in The Career Center, a unit within Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Information Management Specialist provides leadership for The Career Resource Center (CRC) by managing, coordinating, and disseminating career and pre-professional information (digitally and in print) and overseeing the functions of the CRC. The IMS serves as a resource to professional staff for informational needs regarding career development. The candidate must be aware of the career development needs and concerns of students.
The Information Management Specialist contributes to the vision and strategic planning of The Career Center, is a member of the Career Connections team, assesses learning and service outcomes, plans and presents programs and workshops, coordinates events and activities, utilizes career technologies, communicates electronically, develops print and virtual resources, and has direct contact with students on a daily basis in a variety of settings.
Education: Master’s degree required. An ALA accredited MS-LIS degree or similar is preferred.
Experience with Library of Congress Classification and the use of Integrated Library Systems (ideally Koha) is preferred. Previous experience with website management and electronic/digital resources are highly desired. Knowledge of accessible web design, experience deploying and managing Drupal websites is desirable. Working knowledge of web languages and technologies including PHP, CSS, Javascript, Jquery, and experience in database maintenance (MySQL, MSSQL) is beneficial.
