2008 ILA Annual Conference
Congratulations and many thanks to everyone! The 2008 ILA Annual Conference concluded yesterday and it was a wonderful success. Informative, innovative, and fun programs, enthusiastic participation, and great exhibits all contributed to the success. Most notable was “Style from the Stacks: Project Runway at ILA,” which was fantastic and we hope to have photos and maybe even a video on the ILA Web site in the near future.
We have just unloaded the truck and we have weeks of clean up work from the conference, but it appears the 2008 ILA Annual Conference might have been one of the largest in ILA’s history. When those numbers are known and the financial results are known, that information will be shared. In the interim, many thanks to everyone.
Impact of the Passage of House Bill (HB) 4527
ILA Update # 13 noted that the Illinois Senate overrode the governor's amendatory veto of HB 4527 increasing the equalization and school grants formulas. The senate override passed on a vote 55 to 0 on Monday, 22 September 2008.
ILA has been requested to supply more precise information on the impact of this legislation. The following information is subject to confirmation from Illinois State Library, but to the best knowledge of ILA, ten public libraries qualify for the equalization grants under the old limits; under the new formula, the number of public libraries that qualify will increase to the following fifty-seven:
